The theatrical re-release of Disney's "The Lion King" earned $22.1 million this weekend, bringing its two week total to $61.7 million. Since these box office receipts count towards the film's overall total, the re-release's earnings lifted the film to number twelve on the list of highest grossing films of all time with $390.2 million. The film, primarily marketed as a 3D release, is only scheduled for a brief two week engagement in advance of the film debuting on Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on October 4th. "Beauty and the Beast" will also be released on Blu-ray 3D on the same date. This Academy Award nominee for Best Picture was also supposed to be re-released in theaters sometime this year after being converted to 3D, but was twice removed from the studio's schedule without explanation.
